|
|
My parents said they would buy me a new violin from Shar because I was accepted into the Toledo Junior Youth Orchestra so I was wondering if any one had any suggestions. My parents will spend an absolute max. of $3000 and I was wondering what violin to get. I was looking at the Sofia models and the Collector's Series.
Any suggestions |

Sofia is allways a good choice for someone at your age. Ask and make sure the violin you buy is hand made. Factory stuff sounds too fake to me. Although a good instrument is nice, you should also be looking at bows. A good bow is vital...its your voice. You might have a nice bow allready, so...anyways, I recommend Sofia. Happy buy.
Widersehen,

since you have a bow in that you already own, play that with the instruments you are looking at to make sure they are the best combo. i would also recommend the place i got my violin, i got it from west coast strings, through a dealer in my area, it sounds just as good as my friends $5,000.00 italian one. otherwise, definately look at sofia, i have played some of their violins and they are top notch for the money. have fun shopping!!!! |

Yep...deffinitely. Also (its a bit risky) look on Ebay. I went on their last month and saw someone that didn't know anything about violins that was selling a genuine Amati for $100!!!
Wiedersehen,

| Hey. I saw that violin on ebay... not a real amati. It was in the style of amati and it was hand-made, but the quality was just not there to be a real amati. Looking at the scroll and the corners, they seemed very "box-y", like the bought a scroll block that was a little too small and wanted to use the whole thing (or needed to use the whole thing). Amati was not a maker for true musicians (the poor people). His instruments were pieces of art even in his time (made violins/violas/gambas for kings). They The price they sold at would have been comparable to a $20,000 violin today... not that cheap and people that sell at that price need to have not only functional instruments but also need to look good. |

| will they only get you one from shar? there's many places out there that is a LOT cheaper than shar and you can probably find something that's way better than a sofia with 3000 bucks. did you check any local violin shops around your place? i personally prefer going into ashop to tryout instruments instead of them shipping it to me, it just makes the process less complicated. |

| Why don't you just not shop online and actually go to a music store. At a music store, you can actually test out the quality of the violin before actually buy it. |
