|
|
| After the bow I was using broke, my teacher told me to buy a carbon fiber bow, since they sound good and they are more resistant than wood bows, but she warned me that it's really hard to accomplish bouncing strokes with those bows. I bought and it sounds very good, but I cant' accomplish a decent spiccato... queerly I've no problem at all with sautille but it's so hard to make spiccato with those bows. Anybody who has already been through that? any tips? |

No, that is news to me.
Strings Magazine did a comparison of carbon bows some years ago and the impossiblility of playing spiccato with them isn't mentioned in there. I cannot imagine that you cannot execute spiccato with carbon bows also, because carbon bows are also a favorite of a lot of professionals. So I don't know where your teacher got her knowledge about this.
What brand is the bow and what is the weight? How did you choose it? _________________ Four strings attached

I played on a carbon fiber bow for many years and never had any trouble with it. Maybe you just need time to adjust to the new bow. Try the spicatto in different spots and try loosening and tightening it. Maybe try to find the balance point for a reference. Hope you figure out the problem. _________________ "Practice dosen't make prefect. Practice makes permanent. Perfect practice makes perfect."
